Since the outbreak of COVID-19,the international landscape has seen increasingly complex and profound changes, and the world’s political and economic climate has become severe.Against this backdrop, people are paying much more attention to global news.In order to provide Chinese readers with sufficient insights on global dynamics and ensure the accuracy of the information in the cross-cultural and cross-linguistic process of news dissemination, the important role of news translation has become additionally salient. From July to October 2021,the author joined in China Daily’s translation project and contributed to the global news column of China Daily.During the 3-month internship, the author completed the translation of 23 English news articles,or nearly 36,000-word translated texts in total. This report takes the author’s translation practice during the internship as an example and Verschueren’s adaptation theory as a starting point to investigate the choice-making and adaptation process in translation and explore the methods and techniques of English-Chinese news translation. The author finds that Verschueren’s adaptation theory proves to be feasible in examining, translation strategies of news translation.News translation seeks to convey information in a clear and accurate manner, for which the translator can make proper adaptations based on the context and flexibly adopt translation methods like literal translation, recreation and imitation,as well as translation techniques such as addition, omission and shift,to adapt to the text features and meet readers’ expectations,so as to achieve communicative goals.Last but not least,it is hoped that this report can provide some reference for news translation in the future.
