| The opening of railway is a great change of transportation mode in Shanxi Province.After combining with traditional means of transportation,a modern transportation system with railway as the main and traditional means as the auxiliary has been formed.Jinzhong is located at the junction of Zhengtai Railway and Tongpu Railway.Convenient transportation conditions directly promoted the development of local agriculture,industry and commerce,and played an important role in the spatial layout of towns and the transfer of economic center of gravity in this area.In this paper,Zhengtai Railway and Tongpu Railway in the period of the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China are investigated,and from the perspective of economic development and town layout,the influence and promoting role of railway traffic in this period on the economic modernization of Jinzhong is discussed.The paper is divided into three parts: the first chapter introduces the general situation of Shanxi’s traditional land means of transportation,as well as the construction background,preparation work and road construction process of Zhengtai Railway and Tongpu Railway.The second chapter mainly discusses the changes of Jinzhong town economy.Under the influence of railway,the economic development status of different towns presents great differences,which leads to the breakdown of the traditional urban economic pattern and the shift of the economic center of Jinzhong.The towns located at the railway interchange get new development opportunities,and some towns lose their original economic status due to the lack of transportation location advantages.Finally,a three-tier market system of regional central city,sub-central town and marginal town was formed.It shows the great influence of railway traffic on regional vicissitude.The third chapter discusses the impact of railway on the modernization of urban economy.First of all,it drives the economic development of all regions.The promotion effect of railway on agriculture,industry and commerce in Jinzhong is mainly manifested in the increasing commercialization of agricultural products,the gradual increase of the number of factories,the expansion of the scale of commodity circulation,and the eventual acceleration of the industrialization and economic modernization of Jinzhong.Secondly,the spatial layout of the town also changes.The railway station area gradually prospers and attracts new factories and shops,which then changes the spatial structure of the city,such as the city scale,urban functional zoning,urban landscape,etc.Finally,as an emerging foreign thing,railway not only promotes the development of local economy,but also brings many negative factors.Fierce market competition,drug trafficking,the rise of railway crimes and the invasion of foreign capital all have negative effects on society.In general,the opening of railway has greatly influenced the development of agriculture,industry and commerce and the evolution of urban pattern in Jinzhong area,which has played a strong role in promoting the economic modernization and export-oriented development of the area. |
