The significance of Ghadar Movement to India’s independence struggle and national construction is extraordinary. As a revolutionary movement against British rule initiated by Indian immigrants from the United States and Canada, the emergence and development of Ghadar Movement reveals how Indian immigrants with different languages, classes, castes and political backgrounds look at the motherland from another angle in the new environment and reconstruct their way of thinking and vision in the framework of colonialism and imperialism in the 20 th century. The Ghadar movement is beyond the scope of a country in terms of its birthplace and spread. The Ghadar Movement is not only a reflection of Indians’ long-term oppression of British colonial rule, but also a direct product of Indian immigrant workers in North America resisting racial oppression in the early 20 th century. In the United States and Canada, students and workers,Bangladeshis and Punjabis,Sikhs and Hindus are closely United, forming a sense of identity as Indians. The appeal of Hindustan Ghadar is spread all over Europe,America and Asia where Indian immigrants are distributed, awakening more people’s patriotism and struggle consciousness. This is unprecedented in the history of Indian national movement before Ghadar movement.Ghadar activists not only have a strong sense of revolutionary struggle, but also put forward a reform plan on how to modernize India after independence. The Ghadar Movement combines the ideal social order and system in western society with the actual national conditions of India, and puts forward a reform plan for hidden dangers derived from the feudal system in Indian society, such as caste system, sectarian disputes and women’s rights. The Ghadar Movement brought egalitarianism and secularism to India, hoping that their revolutionary enthusiasm would play a certain role in Indian social reform. However, the resistance of Ghadar Movement is tragic.Due to the scattered structure of Ghadar Party organization and the insurmountable gap with the British government in force, the established goal of Ghadar Movement has not been achieved, and the idea of social reform is only a beautiful long-cherished wish for India’s future development. The Indian national movement is diversified.Since the 20 th century, the national independence movement has been one after another in India, with both local protests and large-scale movements. But these movements are not separated, they are the unity of generality and individuality.Ghadar movement is not a national large-scale revolutionary movement, and its theory and movement method have the traditional cultural values of Punjab, but the ideology he conveys is anti-imperialism and national unity, which is in line with the national movement. |
