The thesis intends to analyze the reasons for the choice of non-violent way of the Indian Independence Movement in three aspects, which consists of four parts.The first part discusses the working of Gandhi in the Indian Independence Movement and analyses the traditional culture of India. As the above suggests, the leading action of Gandhi is the primary reason for the choice of non-violent way of the Indian Independence Movement. Gandhi's contributions are elaborated at three stages: to guide properly before the movement;to propagandize actively in the course of struggle;and to rectify immediately after the emergence of violence.The second part analyses the reasons of the middle class for the choice of the non-violent way. Respectively, it discuses the reason on the political tradition of non-violence, the benefits for the class and the economic profits . It suggests that as the leader class, the middle class's choice of non-violent struggle is the determining factor of the problem.In the third part, it firstly indicates that the Britain began to adjust the colonial policy on India around the First World War and analyses the reasons for the change. Then it describes the instances of Indian constitutional reform, being progressively promoted by Britain. All did it intends to illuminate that the Indian nationalists were acquiring more and more national right, so they wouldn't like to take the violent struggle at the risk of being defeated. Therefore, the exterior reason for the choice of non-violent way of the Indian Independence Movement is the British colonization policy on India featured by the constitutional reform.The fourth part makes the conclusion on the basis of the analyses in all above three parts. |
