| Social science texts play an important role in popularizing knowledge of related fields for the public, and the importance of their translation is self-evident.Rosaleen Duffy’s Safety and Protection: The Politics of Illegal Wildlife Trade is a social science text that describes measures taken by different countries to address the illegal wildlife trade. In this report, the translator chooses two chapters of the book for this translation report,War for biodiversity and Military-Security-Conservation Nexus. In the excerpt, there are a large number of passive sentences,so the translation of these passive sentences is decisive for the translation of the excerpt.Under the guidance of Communicative Translation Theory, the translator works out some appropriate translation strategies to translate these passive sentences to help target readers learn more about the illegal wildlife trade and understand how other countries cope with this issue. In line with Communicative Translation Theory, this translation practice report focuses on the translation of passive sentences. The translator summarizes some translation methods while keeping the stylistic characteristics of the source text for target readers. The translator hopes that the translation methods put forward in this practice can provide some reference for the translation of passive sentences in other social science texts. This report is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is the introduction, which mainly introduces the background and significance of the research. In chapter two,the translator describes three translation processes. In the third chapter, the translator introduces key concepts of the theoretical framework and passive sentences and then discusses the feasibility of Communicative Translation Theory in guiding the translation of passive sentences. And the translator then makes a detailed analysis of passive sentences in the source text and puts forward three kinds of translation strategies under the guidance of Communicative Translation Theory,i.e.,linear translation, reverse translation and splitting translation in chapter Four. Finally,in the fifth part, the translator summarizes the report. |
