A Study On Zong Gao’s Thought Of Life And Death

The issue of life and death has always been the most concerned issue of Zen and even Buddhism as a whole.Buddhism starts with the topic of life and death that people are concerned about,transmits Buddhist teachings to the public’s vision,and constantly in tegrates them into Chinese culture.Zen refined the problems related to life and death into the word "life and death are significant",and inspired the public to think about life and society with the problem consciousness of "life and death are significant".Starting from reality,Dahui Zonggao revealed the evasive psychology that prevailed in the Southern Song Dynasty society.Based on the religious righteousness of Zen,he proposed a method of reading Zen and practising to warn the world to face life and de-ath.What is reflected is the ideological context of Zen,which takes Buddha nature as the core and uses the theory of life and death to find a way out of life.Dahui Zonggao not only inherits the basic theory of Zen,but also integrates Confucianism and promotes Chinese culture’s understanding of "mentality".On the eternal topic of life and death,Heidegger revealed the possibility,nature and insurmountability of death,and revealed the positive significance of death for the whole life.Zen learned the outlook on life through death.In this sense,it is consistent with Heidegger’s meaning of "existen-ce to death".Both of them rely on the understanding of death to lead to a path to positively face life.
