| In the context of globalization,exchanges and cooperation between different countries are increasing day by day.Only when we treat different cultures with a broad and tolerant mind can we keep pace with the development of the times.Countries all over the world attach great importance to students’ multicultural awareness,and regard the cultivation of students’ awareness and ability to participate in international affairs as an important part of education.In 2010,China promulgated the State Outline of Education Reform and Development Project(2010-2020),which stipulates to strengthen international understanding education and to enhance students’ understanding of different countries and cultures.This shows that China has realized the importance of international understanding education.In addition,English textbooks have the dual attributes of humanism and instrumentality.And senior high school English textbooks cover a wide range of subjects,and the theme resources involve excellent cultures at home and abroad.It’s aim is to broaden students’ international vision and cultivate students’ intercultural communicative competence,which is an important way for teachers and students to learn about foreign cultures.Therefore,it is necessary to study the content of international understanding education in senior high school English textbooks.The connotation of international understanding education is rich.Based on the existing research results and the research content of this paper,the author defines the international understanding education involved in this paper as: through a series of educational practice activities organized by the school,students can identify with the national culture and adhere to cultural self-confidence;students understand and respect foreign culture;students can actively integrate into the exchanges and interactions of different countries and ethnic groups;students can positively pay attention to global issues,and have international thinking and international literacy.This study focuses on the text analysis of National English Curriculum Standards for General Senior High School(2017)and the text content of senior high school English textbooks published by People’s Education Press(PEP).In addition,the author interviews 10 English teachers from one Middle School in P county of Shaanxi Province to explore the distribution characteristics of international understanding education content in the textbooks.It is found that there are three characteristics in the content distribution of international understanding education in textbooks.Firstly,the textbook focuses on the global dimension.Secondly,the text is rich in content and diversified in presentation.And thirdly,the textbook highlights the cultural function of language.The shortcomings are as follows: first,the structure of the subject content presented in the textbook needs to be improved;second,the hierarchy of the theme content presented in the textbook needs to be strengthened;third,the theme content presented in the textbook needs to keep pace with the development of the times.According to the survey results,the author tries to put forward suggestions from the aspects of high school English curriculum standards,English textbooks and English teachers.It’s aim to rationalize the distribution of the contents of international understanding education in textbooks and to help teachers effectively implement international understanding education in English teaching and cultivate students’ international understanding thinking and ability. |
