| With the continuous improvement of international communication, reading demands for excellent foreign biographical literature is also increasing. The Soul of Basketball: the epic showdown between Le Bron,Kobe,Doc,and Dirk that saved the NBA is a biography written by Ian Thomsen,a reporter for ESPN’s Sports Illustrated, based on interviews and news materials. The biography mainly describes the story of two NBA sports stars,Le Bron James and Kobe Brant’s basketball career and spiritual journey,it uses Le Bron’s 2010 TV show The Decision as a starting point to give readers a panorama of the NBA and an opportunity to reflect the differences in character and spirit between the two basketball players. In accordance with the Eco-Translatology proposed by Professor HU Gengshen, illustrates that translation is an alternating cycle process in which the translator adapts to the ecological environment of the original text and the target text.Based on the guidance of Eco-Translatology theory, this report utilizes the Three-dimensional Transformations as a translation strategy, analyzes some cases from the three dimensions of language, culture and communication, and summarizes the available translation methods.First of all,the source text should be understood deeply, and the translator’s subjectivity to make adaptive selections of the target text should be chosen, which is analyzed from the following three aspects:(1)Linguistic dimension. It is mainly reflected in the transformation of sentence pattern;(2)Cultural dimension. It is mainly reflected in the transmission of language,basketball-related culture, social and cultural connotations;(3)Communicative dimension is mainly reflected in the realization of communicative intention and communicative effect. The report proves that translation is indeed the process of adaptation and selection by the translator. The findings may hopefully help later translators when they do similar translations, and provide some reference for the study and application of the Eco-translatology theory. The thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter mainly introduces the purpose, significance and structure of the report. The second chapter is the task description,in which a brief introduction is given to the ST and its author, followed by a description of the theoretical framework. The third chapter narrates the translation process, including theatre-translating preparation, translating process and post-translating proofreading. The fourth chapter focuses on the case study, the most important part of the report, which reveals how the reporter handling the translation task with the guidance of "three-dimensional transformation".The fifth concludes the thesis with a summary of the translation practice, including gains and expectations of the report. |
