A Practice Report On C-E Translation Of 2016 Annual Report Of Agricultural Bank Of China From The Perspective Of Adaptation/Selection Of Eco-translatology

With the implementation of reform and opening-up policy,more and more corporations have been “going out” to seek cooperative opportunities with foreign enterprises and attract foreign investment,so as to expand their international market.Therefore,the translation of annual reports becomes an important tool to help Chinese companies “go out”.However,the articles studying annual report translation are scarce.Based on C-E translation practice of 2016 Annual Report of Agricultural Bank of China in which the author participated,this report summarizes text characteristics of the annual report and translation problems existed in the translation process.In the source text,there are many financial terminologies,numeral abbreviations and run-on sentences.Additionally,hybrid text types exist in the annual report.The translation problems of the annual report mainly exist in linguistic,cultural and communicative dimensions,which include inconsistent translation and mistranslation of terminologies,the mistranslation of numbers,run-on sentences,numeral abbreviations and neologisms and the inequality in vocative and informative function due to the inappropriate adaptations and selections translators made.Therefore,the report tries to analyze the translation of the annual report under the guidance of adaptation/selection perspective of Eco-Translatology.According to text characteristics and translation problems,translators should adapt themselves to the translational eco-environment with the source text as a typical important element,and then make adaptive selections and decisions about the form of the final target text in the translation process,so that the balance between the source text and the target text can be achieved in linguistic,cultural and communicative dimensions.As for the translation problems in linguistic dimension,relevant financial knowledge should be studied or mastered by translators,and then,adaptive selections of shift in part of speech,adjustment of word order,division and addition and paraphrasing should be made.In view of the translation problems in cultural dimension,translators should notice the connotations of phrases and make the adaptive selection of paraphrasing.In terms of the translation problems in communicative dimension,the main function of different text types in the source text should be figured out by translators before adaptive selections of addition,shift in semantics,shift at syntax level and shift at discourse level are made.
