Song Lyrics is the gem and the essential part of Chinese literature. Since Song Dynasty, many scholars and literati have praised highly on it. With the rapid development of China, more and more classical Chinese literature works have been translated into foreign languages. The translation of Song Lyrics plays an irreplaceable role in cultural exchange between China and the Western countries. However, studies on Xu Yuanzhong's translation of Song Lyrics are less than those on his Tang Poetry translation and can be grouped into two types. One analyzes his Song Lyrics translation from the microcosmic perspective based on traditional translation theories, such as translation aesthetics and assessment model of translation quality. The other focuses on particulars characteristics of Song Lyrics such as image and reduplication and strategies used in the translation.From the perspective of Eco-Translatology, the author of this thesis makes a comprehensive study on Xu Yuanzhong's translation:Bilingual Edition 300 Song Lyrics. Based on the main concepts of Eco-Translatology, the thesis analyzes the translational eco-environment of of Xu's Song Lyrics translation, and discusses the adaptation and selection in his Song Lyrics translation from the perspective of three-dimensional transformations. Eco-Translatology provides an overview to integral translational ecology and suggests that attention should be paid to harmony and balance in translation. According to Eco-Translatology, translators need to adapt to complex translational eco-environment and improve the degree of holistic adaptation and selection in linguistic dimension, cultural dimension and communicative dimension. This paper regards source text, translators'motivation and target readers as the typically important components in translational eco-environment of Xu's Song Lyrics translation. With 47 examples selected from Xu's translation Bilingual Edition 300 Song Lyrics, the author analyzes Xu's adaptation and selection in the three dimensions. Linguistic dimension transformation is discussed from the angles of lexicology, syntactics, language style, rhyme and rhythm. Cultural dimension transformation focuses on the translation of cultural images, place names and traditional festivals in Song Lyrics. Communicative dimension transformation concentrates on how the translator transmits emotion and deals with the allusions in Song Lyrics to achieve communicative purpose.According to the analysis, Xu Yuanzhong's Bilingual Edition 300 Song Lyrics adapts well to its translational eco-environment, and it boasts a high degree of holistic adaptation and selection.
