| It is a translation project report.It is an adaptation from “Migrant Scribes and PoetAdvocates: U.S.Filipino Literary History in West Coast Periodicals,1905 to 1941(Excerpts).” This paper mainly introduces the transition of the Philippine literature from the Spanish colonial period to the American colonial period.It still states the rise and development of the Philippine literature during the American colonial period.The thesis contains many proper nouns and a large part of rigorous criticism.Therefore,it isn’t easy to do translation.This translation report mainly includes five parts: the first part introduces the translation project;the second part talks about the translation process;the third part is the introduction of the translation theory.The fourth part is a case study.It analyzes explicitly the difficulties encountered in the translation process and shows how to use translation theory and translation skills to solve the problems;the fifth part is conclusion.It summarizes the gains and shortcomings in the translation and puts forward some suggestions for translating similar texts in the future.In the completion of the translation report,the translator uses Nida’s functional equivalence theory and some specific cases to convey the author’s original thoughts.With the usage of a variety of translation strategies,it specifically demonstrates the importance of Nida’s functional equivalence theory to translation.The translator draws the following conclusions: 1)The translator should pay attention to the historical background of terms and translate the terms in the cultural context;2)When translating polysemous words,translators should choose the most appropriate words in the specific context.3)The translation of a sentence needs to be consistent with the target language habits and sentence patterns.The translator should reconstruct the sentence to find the most appropriate translation. |
