A Study On The Conservation And Utilisation Of The Xihetan Site And Issues Related To Regional Development

The Xihetan site is a late Neolithic settlement site found in the northwest of China,and a site about the connotations of the Siba culture,rich in cultural remains,recording information on various aspects of the prehistoric culture,habitat,settlement patterns,migration of people and cultural exchanges in the Jiuquan area,which has very important historical value.First of all,the protection of the site is the most basic and crucial issue,comprehensive protection of the site itself and the landscape style,and then in-depth excavation of the historical,scientific and artistic value of the Xihetan site,through the development and use of effective realisation of the socio-economic value of the site,so that the protection and use of the site is coordinated with local development and improvement of people’s livelihood.The issue of the conservation and use of major sites and regional development research is receiving more and more attention,and as the level of conservation and use varies from region to region due to the constraints of the level of economic development,it is important to properly understand and study the relationship between the conservation and use of sites and the relationship with regional social development.Located in the eastern part of the Suzhou district of Jiuquan,Gansu,the Xihetan site was discovered during the cultural heritage census of the last century and was the subject of three intermittent archaeological excavations between 2003 and 2005.The area’s geomorphology is mostly Gobi desert and the local economy has been slow to develop.The study of the conservation and use of the Xihetan site will not only improve the ecological environment of the site area and the region,but will also contribute to the transformation and upgrading of the industrial structure of the regional economy,and will promote tourism in the whole region and the transformation of local village production and labour.Since the excavation and backfilling of the Xihetan site,archaeological research and conservation management have lagged behind,and the lack of infrastructure in the excavated area has had varying degrees of impact on the site due to natural and man-made damage.Therefore,the conservation of the Xihetan site should be urgently addressed.This paper focuses on the conservation of the Xihetan site and the protection of the surrounding environment,and proposes corresponding conservation measures in response to the problems faced by the site from both man-made and natural factors.Combined with guidance on the theory of conservation of major sites and the principles and methods of conservation and utilisation of the sites,the historical and cultural resources of the Xihetan site are used in a rational manner to bring into play the unique values of the site,enhance public understanding of the site and raise awareness of the conservation of major sites,under the premise of protecting the integrity and totality of the site.Through the analysis of the economic and cultural tourism development of Suzhou District,the analysis and discussion of the conservation and use of the Xihetan site will provide a reference for the conservation and use of other major sites in the region and surrounding areas.
