A Report On The Translation Of An Excerpt From The Bloomsbury Companion To Language Industry Studies

With the rapid development of the Internet and the continuous advancement of the globalization process,the demand for the language service market today is growing rapidly,and the forms of language services are becoming more and more diverse.Language services have become a specific industry field.Studies on the language industry have also attracted more and more attention from scholars.Its research content is not limited to the language field itself,but covers multiple disciplines and fields.So,the study of language industry becoming a comprehensive research with both theoretical and practical significance.The selected case material for this translation practice report is The Bloomsbury Companion to Language Industry Studies which has both academic significance and application value.It includes 16 chapters with the latest achievements of language industry in recent years.In this book,the relevant personnel,research environment,research methods,technology and overall development route of language industry research were expounded,and the achievements and existing problems of current language industry studies were analyzed and revealed.At the same time,language services were also introduced and analyzed from the perspective of industry.This translation practice report is intended to select Chapter 2,Chapter 4 and Chapter 13 as the original text.First,the post-editing method was used to English-Chinese translation.Then,the final translation was formed by manual revision and editing on the machine translation results.Finally,machine translation errors were investigated,classified and counted based on the revision of the translation in this practice report.It is found that the machine translation errors of academic texts exist at the three levels of vocabulary,sentence,and text.The specific manifestations are term translation errors,proper noun translation errors,common vocabulary translation errors,redundant information in sentences,unclear reference in sentences,improper use of conjunctions,and wrong translation word order,etc.According to the statistical results of this translation practice,it is found that common vocabulary translation errors account for the highest proportion.Aiming at different types of machine translation errors,the revision methods are summarized and analyzed combined with typical error examples.
