In this paper, the writer uses the live broadcast of NASA’s Perseverance rover landing on Mars as source material.Guided by Gill’s cognitive load theory, the writer analyzes the difficulties of live simultaneous interpretation in three aspects: listening and understanding,short-term memory, and expression output, and summarizes the relevant skills,as well as the differences between live simultaneous interpretation and others,so as to accumulate experience for myself and provide reference for the simultaneous interpretation of similar programs.Through this practice, the author summarizes the difficulties and skills of simultaneous interpretation for live programs in three aspects: listening, memorizing and speaking. In terms of listening and understanding, the difficulties include fast speaking rate,non-subjective factors(e.g.equipment),and sentences not easy to understand, which are generally omitted or blurred;in terms of short-term memory, the challenges include fast speaking rate, complex grammar, dense professional content and high frequency of numbers that lead to memory load, which are generally simplified,sentence-driven and image driven;as to expression output, there are usually difficulties such as lack of corresponding expressions, sequential differences, information redundancy and dense professional terms, which can be handled by alternative explanation, repetition, pause, prediction, word class conversion, omission, inverse translation method, explanation and other strategies respectively.
