| In times of globalization,it is significant to help Chinese culture go global by introducing classics with Chinese characteristics,spirit and wisdom to the world.Astronomy in ancient China was one of the four most developed natural sciences in the world with her unique and complete system of knowledge of observation,detailed literature and profound knowledge of calendar creation,all making it unparalleled in the history of world astronomy.The translation of astronomical classics will on one hand boost Chinese people’s cultural confidence,and on the other hand promote China’s national soft power and image.Guided by Skopos theory,the translator selects and translates the fourth chapter of Astrology and Traditional Chinese Culture in the hope of contributing to the spread of ancient astronomical classics in culture exchanges.The translator analyzes the problems encountered in the translation practice from lexical,syntax and textual level guided by skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule of Skopos theory,and proposes corresponding solutions accordingly.At lexical level,the author suggests that literal translation be mainly adopted for astronomical terminologies in order to help target readers authentically understand the source text,and transliteration with annotation for culture-loaded words so as to retain the culture feature of the source text as much as possible.At syntactic level,the translator coordinates the loose and short sentences of the source text into compact and long sentences of the target text,and converts active sentences into passive ones with consideration of the logicality and objectivity of scientific English texts.At textual level,the translator adds proper connectives and adopts substitutes so as to make the translation coherent,concise and readable for the target readers after a thorough analysis of the logical relationship of source text,conforming to the reading habits of target readers.With a combination of translation methods,the translation not only transmits the meaning of the original text fully and correctly,but also conveys traditional Chinese cultures to the world in cultural exchanges. |
