This paper is translation report based on the excerpts from Tarzan Economics. The book, which adds up to around 160,000 words in English, mainly introduces the knowledge of economics and aims to guide readers to have a better understanding of the principles of economics underlying business operations. As a popular science book, the materials for translation involve a wealth of professional terms in the field of economics and phrases with colloquial style, which requires academic knowledge and language abilities. The translation of this book is of pedagogical significance for readers to understand the relevant knowledge of economics and obtain some business operational skills. On account of the differences between English and Chinese, there are a lot of problems that emerge in the translation process. To deal with most of the problems, the eight commonlyused translation skills are developed from some popular English-Chinese translation coursebooks accordingly. With case analysis,it is effective to deal with the translation task from the perspectives of amplification, omission, annotation, conversion, perspective shift, skills with four-character Chinese phrases, skills with long sentences and skills with voice and tense respectively. As a matter of fact, the translator has solved most of the translation problems through the general translation skills. However,it still fails to work for some special cases in which the problems lurk in translation cannot be solved by the commonly-used skills. It is found that the approach of Categorial Re-correspondence is exactly an antidote which is developed out of the Categorization Theory in the cognitive linguistics.By applying the concept of categorization that proceeds upward to superordinate categories and downward to subordinate categories, categories can further be re-corresponded in the process of translation, which is called Categorial Re-correspondence.Consequently,three skills developed from it are of practical value in translation, namely full categorial re-correspondence,partial categorial recorrespondence, and non-categorial re-correspondence respectively to transfer the source language category into the target language category appropriately.Being applied accordingly to address the translation problems on the vertical axis from the lexical level and on the horizontal axis from the textual level, these skills turn out to be effective in improving the accuracy of the target text. This translation report consists of five parts:Chapter one is an overview of the translation task concerning the project background, the source language text and the structure of the translation report. The second chapter describes the preparatory work, such as the establishment of the term database and the collection of parallel texts. In Chapter Three,it gives us details of the commonly-used translation skills.Chapter four concentrates on the skills to elucidate the application of Categorial Re-correspondence which are conducive for a both more fluent and accurate version. The last chapter is a summary of the achievements, the lessons learned from the task and the limitations related to translation.
