The material for this translation practice is selected from Chapter 5 of Professor Peter N.Nemetz’s The Economics and Business of Sustainability, focusing on the emerging discipline, the environmental economics. The author analyses prevalent environmental problems existing currently with examples and provides detailed descriptions and explanations of present countermeasures and environmental policy tools, which are important for guiding and handling environmental issues such as sewage discharge, gas emissions and misuse of land resources. The translation practice report consists of four parts. The first part is a description of the translation task, which focuses on the sources of the material, the author of the original text and the significance of the selected part. The content of the selected text focuses on the current environmental problems faced by all countries and the possible ways to solve them, which provide formulation for environmental protection policies-making.The second part is the description of the translation process, which details the preparations before translation, the translation process and the post-translation proofreading. As the selected text involves knowledge related to environmental studies and economics, the author has done a lot of preparation work before translating it because of the lack of corresponding backgrounds. The third part is about case study,in which the author analyses typical examples mainly at three levels:vocabulary, sentences and discourse, taking into account the characteristics and difficulties of the texts, and details the processing methods adopted in the translation process, such as literal translation, free translation and sentence splitting and reorganisation to highlight the characteristics of the translation examples respectively. The fourth part is a summary of the translation practice, which mainly includes the perceptions of this translation practice and expectations for the future. This report is a review and summary of this translation practice.Through this translation practice, the report author has gained a deeper understanding and knowledge of resource and environmental issues, more thoughts on how to use translation strategies and techniques appropriately, and accumulated rich experience for future translations. In addition, this translation practice has facilitated the author’s understanding of translation tools, which is conducive to the flexible selection and use of translation tools in the future and improve translation efficiency. |
