Tai Ping Guang Ji is a landmark work in the development of Classical Chinese novels,which contains more than 6,000 classical Chinese novels from the Han dynasty to the Song Dynasty.Soon after the book was published,though,Japanese officials banned trade with China,including the books.However,Tai Ping Guang Ji had already been introduced to Japan as early as the Southern Song Dynasty because of the existence of Japanese public officials,monks and other groups.Such a masterpiece with both novel value and book-like nature,how did the Japanese academia pay attention after it was introduced,and whether this concern has an element of influence from Chinese literati? What is the relationship between the group of writers in modern Japan who are good at learning from Chinese classical literary works and Tai Ping Guang Ji and how to interpret this relationship in the context of the era of "leaving Asia and entering Europe" is the most concerned issue in this paper.Based on this,this paper is divided into five chapters.Chapter one,the spread and influence of Tai Ping Guang Ji in Japan.This chapter uses the research method of philology to sort out the existing literature and try to determine the approximate time of the introduction of Tai Ping Guang Ji.Trace back Tai Ping Guang Ji is the earliest who(or what kind of group)quoted and recorded.To clarify the context and influence of Tai Ping Guang Ji in Japan.Chapter two,Ryunosuke Akutagawa and Tai Ping Guang Ji.This chapter takes two literary works of Akutagawa as the research object and analyzes the relationship between them and Tai Ping Guang Ji by means of textual close reading.The historical novels of Ryunosuke Akutagawa occupy a very important position in the collection of Akutagawa’s works,among which the "reversion novels" adapted from his Chinese classical novels have always been the focus of many scholars’ research.This chapter will explore Ryunosuke Akutagawa’s acceptance of Tai Ping Guang Ji from three aspects of characters,plot composition and theme content in his novels.Chapter three,Haruo Sato and Tai Ping Guang Ji.Haruo Sato was one of the representative writers active during the Taisho to Showa period.His works of Chinese classical literature,such as Tai Ping Guang Ji,were the source of his creation and the object of his translation.In addition to discussing the acceptance of the specific text in Tai Ping Guang Ji,Haruo Sato,the representative writer who translated Tai Ping Guang Ji,should also be included in our discussion.This chapter intends to select a few works which are reprinted from Tai Ping Guang Ji compiled by Haruo Sato,so as to explain how Tai Ping Guang Ji was adapted and introduced to Japan by Haruo Sato.Chapter four,Nakajima Atsushi and Tai Ping Guang Ji.Nakajima was born in a Confucian family.His grandfather,father and uncle are all outstanding sinologists.For Nakajima,"Sinology knowledge is like mother’s milk that feeds him and nurtures him." "The knowledge he has acquired has been digested and integrated into his mental functioning.It is not so much knowledge as cultivation that is closely related to life.This cultivation laid the foundation for many of his novels based on Chinese classics.This section attempts to explore Nakajima’s acceptance of The Book by comparing the textual details of Nakajima’s novel "The Moon of the Mountain" with that of Tai Ping Guang Ji,as well as the translation of Nakajima’s diaries and letters.The fifth chapter is the conclusion of the whole paper.Based on the discussion of the first four chapters,it summarizes the literary value of Tai Ping Guang Ji in Japan and its cultural significance to Japan deeply influenced by Chinese classical literature.
