Collected Notes for Tai Ping Guang Ji is an edition of Tai Ping Guang Ji,which uses the most materials for collation and collects the most variant characters so far.It corrects plenty of mistakes in the base text and the previous editions, but there are still some errors and omissions. In response to the phenomenon, this thesis probes into representative cases, mainly from the perspective of the history of Chinese language and Chinese characters, summarizes the causes of the faults, and collates the text of Tai Ping Guang Ji with variant characters. The thesis is divided into five chapters.Chapter 1 is an introduction, which introduces the object and significance of the topic, and illustrates the current status of the research on the collation and language of Tai Ping Guang Ji.Chapter 2 discusses the wrong corrections in Collected Notes for Tai Ping Guang Ji,from the perspectives of characters, the meaning of words, idiom, phonology, grammar, facts, and context.Chapter 3 reveals the phenomenon of "collation without correction" and "suspicion without correction" in Collected Notes for Tai Ping Guang Ji,through discussing some examples in the collected variant characters.Chapter 4 gathers and analyses some variant characters not listed in Collected Notes for Tai Ping Guang Ji,by comparing the base text with the contents of this book, different editions, cited books, and other books. It not only helps to collate, but also shows the importance of variant characters from different sources.Chapter 5 explores the examples not conforming to the collation principles in Collected Notes for Tai Ping Guang Ji.It’s pointed out that collating ancient books should distinguish different sources and categories of variant characters so that to adopt targeted approaches, pay attention to the norms, and avoid problems in the collation notes.
