Research On Mencius’ Thought Of Cultivation Of Mind

The theory of "cultivation of mind" is an important aspect of Mencius’ s thought.This article is based on the text of Mencius while absorbing some new research results,trying to outline Mencius’ s theory of "Cultivation of Mind." Through the interpretation of the text of "Mencius",this article first analyzes the multiple connotations of "mind" in "Mencius" and reveals the meaning of "cultivation of mind".The main purpose of "cultivation of mind" is to cultivate the self-controlled mind and the moral mind,making a person conscious of being a human being,while cultivating the moral mind can make a person a saint.Second,combined with Mencius’ s ideological theme,it explains the reason for "cultivation of mind".Because morality is a person’s unique "good",and the "good end" of the mind is easy to lose,so "cultivation of mind" is essential.Third,through the analysis of relevant chapters in Mencius,it summarizes Mencius’ s main methods and realm of "cultivation of mind".The methods of "cultivation of mind" include cherishing ambition,pursuing good intentions,seldom desires,seeking self-seeking,and cultivating qi.The realm of "nourishing the mind" is the unity of nature and man.Furthermore,a comparative analysis of the text of "Mencius",it briefly clarifies the influence and significance of Mencius’ s theory of "cultivation of mind." This article believes that the significance of the theory of "cultivation of mind" is to promote the spirit of human subjectivity and at the same time lay the foundation for the Confucianism moral self-cultivation theory.
