As a category in the aesthetic field, absurdity is characterised by perverse paradoxes or the absence of values,it represents reality and the meaning of existence of extreme forms and seeks to make people think about how to get out of the circle of absurd life.Through the deconstruction and expression of the absurd stories that is prevalent in the real world, his films are satirical and critical, using images to show the audience the objective and real existence of the "absurd",to think about the deeper meaning under the shell of the absurd, and to inspire the audience to think about the problems of the real world. The film is a satire and a critique. The absurd are often humorous and tearful in cinematic expression, and at the same time better conveys the seriousness of the subject matter. This paper uses absurdity as an entry point to analyse the absurdity of Bu(?)uel’s films in terms of both content and form into the aesthetic category of absurdity.Firstly, the themes and characters of Bu(?)uel’s films are analysed at the level of "content",and secondly, the narrative expression and audiovisual presentation of Bu(?)uel’s films are studied at the level of "form".In the first chapter,we identify the aesthetic theory of the absurd and outline the reasons for the formation of the absurd style in Bu(?)uel’s films, both in terms of his social background and his creative experience.Chapters two and three analyse the absurdity of the content of Bu(?)uel’s films in terms of the nature of the absurd.Chapter 2 divides the themes of Bu(?)uel’s films into three aspects: the bourgeoisie, religion and the current state of society, from which the absurdity is analysed.Chapter 3 explores the absurdity of the characters of Bu(?)uel’s films, the absurdity of the characters of the absurd situations in the films, mainly based on Camus’ theory of absurdity to discuss three aspects of the conflict between man and the world, resistance and characterisation in Bu(?)uel’s films.Chapters four and five analyse the absurdity of form in Bu(?)uel’s films through the aesthetic category of the absurd, how he presents the farcical absurdity of the conventional form, and how he uses it to express the chaos and disorder of modern life and the desires hidden beneath the world of appearances.Chapter 4 examines the narrative expression of Bu(?)uel’s films and how he creates a highly absurd yet highly free narrative space, yet one that is willing to accept it with a sense of conviction.Chapter 5 traces the use of the aesthetics of the absurd in a comprehensive analysis of three aspects of Bu(?)uel’s films: image, dialogue and sound, and considers in depth the plurality and possibilities of the films presented by the absurd audiovisual techniques in Bu(?)uel’s images. The ideas conveyed by Bu(?)uel’s images and the absurd artistic techniques used still have relevance and aesthetic value today, and exploring how the absurd aesthetics in Bu(?)uel’s films is expressed can lead to a broad reflection on the development of cinema.
