Research On The Absurd Aesthetics Of Cao Baoping's Films

Director Cao Baoping always adheres to the artistic pursuit of film works.In a time when many films,which put emphasizes on forms and wonders but not on ideas and connotations,his film won many awards and won a good reputation for its unique personal expression,and became a shining star in the film market.Cao Baoping's films show rich connotations,especially the expression of absurd thoughts.He is concerned about individual survival and good at showing the complex psychology of characters in extreme situations.And through the setting of occasional,extraordinary events and the use of clever forms,his films express the world's irrational and absurd life.This paper takes six films of director Cao Baoping as the main research object and is divided into four parts to discuss the absurd aesthetics presented in his films:Chapter one discusses Cao Baoping's films and absurd aesthetics: firstly,the theoretical history of "absurdity" and its presentation in literary and artistic works are analyzed.Absurdity is a modern aesthetic category used to express the opposition between people and the world.The absurd artistic works are characterized by rebellion against tradition.Secondly,Cao Baoping's personal experience and film works are briefly introduced.Director Cao Baoping has a persistent artistic pursuit for films,and his films also present a strong sense of absurdity.Finally,the absurd expressions in Cao Baoping's films are discussed.Cao Baoping's films show the world chaos,irrational life and other absurd ideas,as well as the absurd character of defying tradition and challenging conventions.Chapter two discusses the absurd existence world in Cao Baoping's films: from three aspects of social ethics,power and living conditions,this paper analyzes the unique presentation of Cao Baoping's films to the world's absurdity.In combination with Cao Baoping's film works,this paper makes an in-depth analysis of Cao Baoping's film's individual expression of absurdity in the world from many aspects,such as the imprisonment and domination of people by traditional ethics and social values,the enslavement and discipline by alienated power,and the living circumstances that people cannot choose or control.The third chapter discusses the revelation of Cao Baoping's absurd personal fate in his films: through the analysis of the hopeless survival of small characters in Cao Baoping's films,of the life fate out of control,and of the threat of others that he has to face,this paper makes an in-depth study of the film's presentation of the absurd fate of the characters.The unique presentation of Cao Baoping's films on the absurd personal fate is explored in such aspects as the violent growth of adults and the repressed existence of the adult world,the domination of fate by chance and the ineffectiveness and lowliness of human resistance,as well as the bloody killing between people and the fatal threat caused by accidental choices.Chapter four discusses the artistic expression of absurdity: in terms of narrative strategies,Cao Baoping's films highlight the emotional conflicts and contradictions of the characters by the accidental,reversed plots and irrational narration,creating an extreme sense of absurdity.In terms of image expression,Cao Baoping's film shows the hopelessness of life and the absurdity of destiny by means of metaphor of light,shadow,composition,color and object.In terms of sound rendering,Cao Baoping's films are designed with vulgar and ironic language,"minimalist noise" soundtrack,and the form of sound and painting counterpoint,creating a world of irrational,extreme absurdity of life pain.
