A Report On Translation Of The Collection Of Folk Tales Of Li Nationality (Excerpts)

The translation material of the report derives from The Collection of Folktales of Li Nationality(hereinafter referred to as The Tales)compiled by Fu Zhen and Su Haiou.The book contains 69 stories,including the fantasy about the natural environment,social phenomena,human history,mountains and rivers,the revelation to the vicious and greed nature of the ruling class,and the praise for the industrious and brave qualities of working people,etc.These stories are full of national characteristics,however,they were not well known to the pubic because of less reputation.Therefore,based on the folk stories of Li nationality,the report discusses translation strategies,hoping the translation can make more target readers know the culture characteristics of Li nationality and feel its humanistic atmosphere.According to the rhetoric figures,the report selects 67 sentences from nine texts as research material and discusses the translation strategies of analogy,hyperbole and repetition under the features of Li nationality and folk.To recreate the rhetoric effects of the original texts and further provide the best reading experience for target readers,the author uses various translation methods,including literal translation,adding explanation words and omission,etc.The author tries to summary some rules of translating rhetoric figures to provide reference values for future translation studies of similar texts.
