The materials for this translation practice are selected from the book The Essentials of Conditioning and Learning written by Michael Domjan,professor of psychology at the University of Texas,USA,which mainly provides a concise and sophisticated summary of the essentials of conditioning and learning as well as puts forward some new theories from the perspective of educational psychology and neuroscience.Based on the translation of excerpts of the book,the report explores some translation strategies and skills by case study at three levels of lexis,s yntax and nonverbal element under the guidance of Nord’s text analysis model.The source text is categorized as informational text with referential function centered on.Therefore,the difficulty of this translation practice lies in how to convey the information of the source text objectively and accurately in a way consistent with the expression habits of the target language readers,particularly reflected in the translation of some words and sentences.Difficult words involve technical terms and common nouns in specific context,and difficult sentences include passive sentences and long and complex sentences.In order to solve the above,the author adopted translation skills and techniques including amplification,omission,semantic extensions of concepts,literal translation combined with annotation,the change of voices and inversion,referring to equifunctional translation strategy in instrumental translation,so as to achieve the maximum functional equivalence between the source text and the target text.The significance of this translation practice is mainly embodied in the following two aspects.On the one hand,the translated text mainly introduces essentials of classical conditioning and operant conditioning and their research progress,which is helpful to promote the research progress of students and profess ionals related to this area in C hina.O n the other hand,the author analyzes the translation strategies of educational psychology texts at the levels of lexis,syntax and nonverbal element from the perspective of Nord’s text analysis model,providing research cases and experiences for the translation of this kind of text.
