A Comparative Study Of The Playing Versions Of Prokofiev’s Piano Sonata No.2

Piano Sonata No.2 is a special work,it was created by Prokofiev in his early creation of inspiration and preliminarily reflects his personalized creation style.In this work,the harmonic techniques and musical features mainly embodies the fusion of classicism and modernism so that it is considered one of the precedents of neoclassical works.In addition,among Prokofiev’s early works,Piano Sonata No.2 is not only the largest structure,but also the strongest contrast.At present,the comparative characteristics of this work are seldom mentioned in relevant researches,and the literature about Prokofiev has yet to be combined with "visual analysis".This thesis mainly uses literature research method and comparative research method.It is a comparative study of four performance version of Richter,Lazar Berman,Pletnev and Eliso Virsaladze.Analyze the dynamics and speed of the performance characteristics of whole movement and partial passage by Vmus online platform for visual analysis of music performance.The various acoustic parameters of the dynamics and speed of the four performers are presented in the form of charts.Summarize the similarities and differences between their performances,as well as study their different ways of playing the contrasting characteristics of Piano Sonata No.2.Through the study,it is found that the comparative characteristics of this work are mainly reflected by the changes of dynamics and speed of performance,and the changes in the whole and part of this work is different that it is reflect different ways of expressing the contrast.Through the comparison of the performance versions of the four pianists,it can be seen that the comparative characteristics of this work can not only reflected by the contrast of the overall dynamics and speed of performance,but also reflected by emphasizing the independence of styles between sections.The analysis results of four players’ playing treatment of Piano Sonata No.2combining with Prokofiev’s playing characteristics of percussion and lyric could further explain the guiding effect of performance version comparison to performance practice.The thesis mainly studies the contrast of Piano Sonata No.2,and how to reflect this characteristic in performance.Furthermore,by comparing the performance styles of different style pianists can further understand Prokofiev’s musical style and performance characteristics,the research results can also provide some reference suggestions for students to learn and perform this work.
