A Report On The E-C Translation Of The Encyclopedia Of Trading Strategies(Excerpts)

With the rapid development of China’s overall economy,trading strategies in the financial market have become popular.Although the relevant concepts of trading strategies have been developed in C hina,there is still a lack of books to summarize these strategies.Therefore,the translator selects the book The Encyclopedia of Trading Strategies and takes the first six chapters as the source text of this translation practice.The aim is to help traders and researchers have a macro grasp of the strategy,and bring enlightenment to the market development and trading behavior in China.Guided by the Skopos theory,this report illustrates the difficulties in the translation process.As an informative text,its focus is on content rather than form,and the translator is supposed to convey the concepts of the source language.Based on the three rules of the Skopos theory,namely,the Skopos rule,the coherence rule,and the fidelity rule,the translator analyzes and translates the source texts from the lexical,syntactic,and textual levels.At the lexical level,literal translation,free translation and omission are adopted.At the syntactic level,the translator uses the strategies of conversion,division and paraphrase.At the textual level,strategies of repetition and amplification are employed.The report indicates that the Skopos theory has strong applicability in guiding the translation of financial texts,which contributes to the readability.The translator expects that this report can provide some helpful inspirations for the translation of financial texts in the future.
