| With the overwhelming globalization,the oil trade is developing rapidly around the world.This report selects chapters three,eleven and thirteen of the book Trading and Price Discovery for Crude Oils as the source text for the translation practice.The source text mainly introduces the early days of the oil industry and the benchmarks of Brent and WTI.The translation of oil trade texts aims to convey the oil trade information to target readers.With emphasis on the purpose of translation,Skopos theory has important guiding significance for the translation of oil trade texts.Taking the Skopos theory as the guiding theory is conducive to improving the translation quality of oil trade texts.Based on the feature analysis of the source text,this report applies the Skopos theory to the translation practice of oil trade texts.Problems encountered in the translation practice and their solutions are summarized and analyzed in the translation report at lexical level,syntactic level,and textual level aiming to provide a reference for further studies on the translation of similar texts.The major finding is that the translation of oil trade texts should conform to the three rules of Skopos theory to achieve the information transmission and increase the readability and acceptability of target texts.Specifically,on the lexical level,the equivalent translation,contextual analysis and transliteration techniques are suggested to translate terms,semi-technical terms,and proper nouns.On the syntactic level,voice conversion,linear translation,cutting and embedding techniques are suggested to translate passive sentences,long sentences,and sentences with “with” structure.On the textual level,through the analysis of pronoun reference,subordinate structure,and internal logical relation,the addition and omission of conjunctions and prepositions are adopted to attain the cohesion and coherence of target texts so as to intensify the readability and acceptability of the target texts. |
