| This report is based on the translation work of A Collection of Painting Thoughts: The Theory Construction of Brush-and-Ink in Chinese Painting(chapter 11 to 26).The chapters are chosen since most types of difficulties are contained,and the source text was about 12,000 words.The book discussed painting theories of Lijiang Painting School under traditional Chinese painting as well as the author’s perception of brush and ink construction.The translation of this work contributes to disseminating Chinese painting culture and theories,especially theories of Lijiang Painting School.The source text is written based on the author’s experience in painting from the aspect of brush-and-ink techniques and aesthetic realm.The language style is lively and rich in ancient sense.In addition,the text makes use of a large number of cultural contents,such as historical terminology of traditional Chinese painting,ancient poetry,Chinese classics,etc.while consulting the parallel text,the author also refers to a series of works related to literary translation.This report mainly starts with subtitles,ancient poetry citations and compound sentences of complex logic,and raises policies of conversion and reconstruction,as well as emphasis on functional equivalence instead of formal equivalence.The report also summarizes the difficulties encountered in translation and the translation of similar texts from the perspective of cultural translation,so as to achieve the readability and acceptability,and introduce the theory of Chinese traditional painting to the outside world.Through this translation practice,the translator believes that it is feasible to use cultural translation theory to guide the text translation of Lijiang Painting Theory,which can provide a useful reference not only for further disseminating Lijiang Painting School abroad,but also for the translation of other theoretical works upon Chinese painting. |
