A Report On The Translation Of The Complex Sentences In Between Two Kingdoms:A Memoir Of A Life Interrupted Under The Guidance Of Communicative Translation Theory

In the world,the only thing that never changes is constant change.In this rapidly changing era,people not only need to enrich themselves in constant progress but also have a good attitude to face the difficulty.And how to build a good attitude is an issue of intensive debate.Therefore,using different translation skills to translate relative books appropriately will help people to ease and combat anxiety in this post-pandemic era.This report is based on the English-to-Chinese translation of Between Two Kingdoms: A Memoir of a Life Interrupted written by Suleika Jaouad.It is an autobiographical novel which is about a writer who graduated from Princeton University,and began to have a promising future but was diagnosed with leukemia.And her life was suspended.Fighting cancer for four years,she survives.But she didn’t know how to start.Therefore,she went on a trip.Finally,she knew that there is no perfectly healthy person,and no perfect state of wellness to strive for.It is unnecessary to be dissatisfied with the goals not achieved.British translator Peter Newmark has proposed the communicative translation theory.It focuses more on the translation which conforms to the language habit of the target language.And it advocates that the translation should not be constrained by the form of the source text.Therefore,this report is guided by it,using different translation techniques such as reversion,division,and so on to translate complex sentences to make the translation express the real meaning of the original text.According to the translation practice and report,the translator found that communicative translation theory and the application of various translation techniques have certain guiding of significance for the translation of an autobiographical novel.It is hoped that the translator can comprehend and translate complex sentences,accumulating experience and improving her ability.Finally,the translator hopes that this report can provide a certain reference for the translation task of similar topics in the future.
