Practice Report Of English-chinese Translation Of Complex Sentences In Academic Texts Under The Guidance Of Conceptual Integration Theory

Because of the complex structure,the translation of complex sentences has always been one of the difficulties among English-Chinese translation.Therefore,complex sentences has been received much concern from linguistics and grammarians.They have tried to study the issue from various aspects,such as defining,classifying,word order,syntactic differentials and discussing its functions in communication and they also studied it in several areas,including business English,English for science and technology.In this thesis,the Conceptual Integration Theory will be used to study the EnglishChinese translation of complex sentences.The Conceptual Integration Theory has been used to study English compound words,English puns,subjunctive mood and so on by various scholars.In this thesis,the complex sentences will be divided into four categories: non-restrictive attributive clauses,restrictive attributive clauses,adverbial clauses and noun clauses.These four categories will be studied by the Conceptual Integration Theory respectively.Under the guidance of the CIT,conceptual integration model will be attempted to create in terms of complex sentences in this thesis.This model will consist of two inputs which contain elements of the complex sentences and the elements will then be cross-mapped into generic space.Elements will be finally integrated through the process of composition,completion and elaboration.The result of the blended space will eventually guide the the translation of complex sentences.The practice has proved that the CIT has a strong explanatory power for various linguistic phenomena,including complex sentences.The translation of complex sentences under the guidance of conceptual integration theory is of great help to the understanding of sentence content and structure.This study not only reveals the generating process of complex sentences,but also reinforce the explanatory ability of the CIT itself.
