Picture Book Transformation And Media Reproduction Of Chinese Traditional Culture

Children have always been an extremely important and indispensable group for the intergenerational transmission of Chinese traditional culture and the inheritance of skills.Leaving children to talk about the inheritance of traditional Chinese culture is bound to be a fault.Therefore,in order to truly realize the living inheritance of Chinese traditional culture,it is necessary to infiltrate traditional Chinese culture into children’s daily life and realize the activation of meaning.Picture books are one of the indispensable media for children’s cognitive education at present.Picture books originated in the West took root in China and formed a unique “Chinese style” picture book,which draws inspiration from traditional Chinese culture.It includes not only surface culture such as folk literature and architectural utensils,but also middle-level culture such as festival customs and traditional etiquette,as well as core culture such as values and aesthetic concepts,with a wide range of topics,which can fully demonstrate the essence and charm of traditional Chinese culture,which has become an important carrier of Chinese traditional culture inheritance.Therefore,with a focus on Chinese traditional culture picture books,we will explore how Chinese traditional culture can be transformed into picture books to gain new humanistic interpretations? How can picture books enter children’s daily lives to achieve the intergenerational transmission of Chinese culture?In the process of localizing picture books,we found that the concept of Western picture book creation was introduced to China as early as the 1920 s,and domestic creators began to focus on the creation of children’s picture books and to explore local original picture books.In the transformation of traditional Chinese culture,picture books are not a direct transfer and copy of traditional culture,but a “child-oriented”filtering,refining,restructuring and rebuilding of traditional Chinese culture,using a combination of graphic narratives to show the beauty of the meaning and deep spiritual connotations of traditional culture,so that children can personally feel the traditional Chinese culture is relatable and approachable.In the new era of narrative and discourse changes,traditional paper picture books have undergone changes in content and narrative form,relying on digital technology,audio picture books,animated picture books,VR picture books and picture book plays that integrate theatrical performances to enrich paper picture books into audio,animation and physical interpretation,allowing children to gain a full-sensory immersive reading experience of sight,sound and touch.At the same time,with the help of cross-media narratives,stories in different media forms present an intertextual relationship,building a story world and thus completing the reader’s imagination.The real activation of Chinese traditional culture requires not only the physical carrier of picture books,but also the interaction between traditional culture and the present through interpersonal communication to achieve the flow of cultural meaning.As a physical space,the picture book libraries use Chinese traditional culture picture books as a link to organize activities such as picture book reading and picture book drama performances.In this process,children complete the construction of personal memory through embodied experience,establish cultural identity and confirmation,and realize the intergenerational transmission of traditional Chinese culture.In the spatial reproduction,picture books continue to expand their texts based on commercial logic,extending peripheral derivatives such as dolls,clothing,and offline live exhibitions,etc.The penetration of different spatial levels helps broaden the audience’s cultural experience,thus completing the construction of brand empowerment value.In the horizontal analysis of the transformation of Chinese traditional culture into picture books in terms of content,form and space,we explore the interaction between media and content as well as the new narrative laws and production logic of picture books under the change of media forms based on the media properties of picture books.In this process,we can find that picture books,as a medium,link the relationship between people and people,people and space,and people and traditional culture,which makes Chinese traditional culture gain the power to transcend time and space in the continuous flow,and regain new vitality and vigor.
