The source text of the translation project,“Balancing the Scales: A Configurational Approach to Work-Life Balance”,published at the end of 2020,is selected from the journal,Annual Review.The source text summarizes the relevant research of work-life balance,expounds various factors affecting work-life balance,analyzes in detail the four configurational approaches to achieve work-life balance,and finally points out the best way to achieve balance,providing an effective reference for people around the world to correctly deal with work-life relations.In addition,the source text closely focuses on the global current events and puts forward specific and prominent problems in people’s work and life during the COVID-19 epidemic,pointing out the direction for future research in related fields.This report tends to apply adaptation theory to guide the translation practice.Adaptation theory is a linguistic theory founded by Verschueren,which emphasizes four aspects: contextual correlates of adaptation,structural objects of adaptation,dynamics of adaptation and salience of adaptation process.Therefore,in translation,the author focuses on the specific application of adaptation theory in translation from the above perspectives,and tries to realize the dynamic adaptation to the source text.Guided by adaptation theory,this translation report mainly studies English-Chinese translation of informative texts in the field of psychology in order to provide reference for the translation of similar texts in the future.
