| The Great Tang Dynasty Record of the Western Regions is a travel note made by Xuan Zang,a monk in the Tang Dynasty,during his travel to ancient India.Modern foreign explorers saw the historical and geographical value of this book.During the expedition,they took it as the tour guide,and they carefully explored and excavated the ancient ruins in Xinjiang recorded by Xuan Zang.In this article,the research object is the foreign explorers’ research on the place names of the Xinjiang section in The Great Tang Dynasty Record of the Western Regions.We combine the research of foreign sinologists,domestic archaeologists,and experts in the study of geographical names in the western regions to integrate and supplement the research results of these explorers.On this basis,we put forward some thoughts on the contemporary value of the research.The full text is divided into three parts:The first part introduces the dissemination of The Great Tang Dynasty Record of the Western Regions abroad,and gives an overview of the foreign expeditions in Xinjiang since the mid-19 th century,focusing on countries such as Russia,Britain,Germany,France,Japan,Sweden and other countries that have achieved fruitful results in this wave of expeditions,and summarizes them of expeditions and expedition writings.In the second part,based on the writings of foreign explorers,we have combed in detail the real textual research materials of foreign explorers on the place names of the Xinjiang section in this ancient travel diary.In addition,we have enriched the results based on the domestic and foreign research overview of relevant place names,and referred to the relevant descriptions and place name data of the national place name information database.The third part discusses the practical application of the Xinjiang place name research,mainly including promoting the cultural development project,enriching international Chinese education,and helping Chinese and foreign cultural exchanges under the background of the "the Belt and Road". |
