It is well known that the psychological state of individuals in cities has become an important problem in modern society.Whether it is the urban sickness of the modern,or the homesickness in the spatial sense,or the anxiety that the whole world is selling, all reflect the desire of human beings for self-position in community life. The most objective and core essence of this is the change of people.Discussing the actuality and consequences of urban alienation, the primary problem is to explore the delicate changes of people’s daily life and spiritual world in this process of urban alienation.Art is one of the creative activities in which the artist is not only mimicking the process of nature, rather than just sitting and watching. It is the activity where the artist tries to explore the laws of nature and expound reality in his special way.The author was influenced by the work of three neorealism artists,Edward Hopper,George Tooker and Jeffrey Smart. Each of the three artists presents the everyday lives of the city’s "authorities"from their own unique perspective.Hopper’s poetic touch,George’s sketchy framing,Smart’s eerie permutations, all through the defamiliarization of the architectural lines, the subtle use of light and the alienation of the landscape, brings out the "emotional effect" of the city’s unfamiliarity of the city.Throughout this thesis will be divided into four chapters to discuss. The introduction is mainly an overview and a combination of the whole text. Then the first chapter summarizes and dissects my artistic experiences, and expounds the exploration of oil painting in neorealism when I study painting. The second chapter mainly deals with the expression of defamiliarization theory and the aesthetic reference of favored artists in neo realistic oil paintings related to this text. The third chapter focuses on the discussion, which is based on the description of my artistic practice, and describes the manifestation process and expression of The Campus Story. The forth chapter mainly discusses the understanding and future prospects of creation. This thesis is a practical exploration.I hope that the society will pay more attention to the psychological state of college students by expressing one’s feelings about school life and giving birth to similar social groups.
