As an inter-disciplinary research paradigm,Eco-translatology provides a new perspective for translation practice."Ten-tion" eco-translation methods, the latest development of this paradigm, also offer important guidance for translation activity. This report on interpreting is based on the speech of an academic lecture on translation that was held on November 24th,2021.After the completion of consecutive interpreting on the spot, the author sorted out the problems in the process as a way to study the function of "Ten-tion" eco-translation methods in interpreting. As an academic lecture, this seminar involves many specific terms and core theories of Eco-translatology.Besides,the characteristics of impromptu speech in academic lectures also pose challenges to the author. How to deal with the problems caused by the speaker’s impromptu speech, such as loose logic, language repetition, and slip of the tongue, how to enable the audience to better understand the unique terminology system of this new translation theory, and how to adapt to the complex interpreting environment should all be taken into careful consideration during the process. This paper, with analysis of specific problems that occurred in the practice, studies the guiding role of "Ten-tion" eco-translation methods, mainly including the following skills and methods,"Adaptive Reduction" "Adaptive Addition"“Source-Contextualization" "Target-Contextualization" and "Text-balancing Scrutinization".The following tentative conclusions have been drawn based on this interpreting practice:" Adaptive Reduction" method should be adopted to deal with repetition and false beginnings of the speaker;"Adaptive Addition" method can be employed to cope with the source utterances that lack the specific cultural background, visual materials,or to additionally explain certain technical terms in the source utterance;“Source-Contextualization" and "Target-Contextualization" strategy should be chosen respectively depending on whether the elements can survive and thrive in both the source and target utterances when transplanting elements that carry the cultural characteristics or connotation of the source utterances;when dealing with the speaker’s slip of the tongue or other unexpected emergencies, the translation principle of "Text-balancing Scrutinization" should be used to coordinate, balance, inspect, and confirm the whole process throughout translation activities.Focusing on the specific problems that are encountered in this practice, the author elaborated skills and strategies in the package of "Ten-tion" eco-translation methods. With a look to the future, the author of this report hopes to conduct deeper and more comprehensive studies based on adequate interpreting practices,so as to tap the full potential of the guiding role of "Ten-tion" methodology system and provide feasible solutions for other interpreting practitioners to improve the quality of interpreting.
