| The translation practice is based on Chapter Three of Something Hidden in the Ranges:The Secret Life of Mountain Ecosystems.The topic of this chapter is "Beaver Meadow",which introduces the ecosystem inhabited by beavers,including its formation,action mechanism and impact on other animals and plants.This practice is aimed to increase people’s understanding of beavers and enhance their awareness of biodiversity protection.As a kind of popular science text,the language of the selected translation material is characterized by preciseness and objectivity with a certain literary color.The present author makes efforts to enable the translation not only to meet the target readers’expectations,but also to retain the language characteristics of the original text.For the translation of verbs,prepositions,terms and compound adjectives,the methods of choosing the meaning of words,extension and conversion are used;for the translation of passive sentences,attributive clauses and adverbial clauses with typical English characteristics,the present author chooses the methods of replacing passive voice with active voice,splitting and restructuring of long sentences;at the textual level,the cohesion and coherence of the text are ensured by adding logic conjunctions,supplementing details and clarifying substitutions.After analyzing the stylistic features of popular science texts,the present author summarizes the translation methods of popular science texts under the guidance of Vermeer’s skopos theory.On the one hand,the present author needs to clarify the purpose of translation and the selected translation skills to serve this purpose.On the other hand,as the intermediary between the author and the reader,the present author should try to achieve a balance between the two.This practice introduces the mountain ecosystem of Rocky Mountain National Park,which is conducive to further research by relevant people.This translation practice has certain guiding and reference significance for similar text translation. |
