Research On Tang Junyi’s Moral Self-view

Tang Junyi is one of the most famous scholars in China in the 20 th century.He is famous for his grand philosophical system which contains moral reason,cultural consciousness and life ideal.He is called“the giant in the universe of cultural consciousness”.Taking “moral self”as the center,he clarified the relationship between moral subjectivity and cultural activities,and extended it to “life existence” to construct the realm of mind connecting nine realms.Academic study of tang junyi moral self thought,more or less involves moral philosophy,culture,philosophy and philosophy of life,but there is a common problem of not grasping the logical relationship between the three,or stopping at a general and abstract interpretation of the position and significance of the moral self in the whole philosophical thought system.This paper focuses on the theoretical development of the moral self as embodied in morality,divided in culture,and reverted to life,and attempts to make a comprehensive analysis and systematization of Tang Junyi’s view of the moral self.First of all,the birth background and theoretical environment of Tang Junyi’s moral self-view are systematically investigated.Secondly,it makes a theoretical analysis of the concept of “moral self” and points out the basic connotation of moral self,the origin of mind noumenon and three basic characteristics of moral self.Thirdly,through the exploration of moral self starting from the theory of human nature,divides the cultural world,infiltrating moral practice,exploring the whole process of the theory of life realm,analyzing the starting point and end-result of the extension of moral self theory.Finally,the author makes a comprehensive comment on the value and limitation of tang Junyi’s moral self-view.As a representative of modern Neo-Confucianism,Tang Junyi thoroughly understood the Chinese and western,integrated Confucianism,Buddhism and Taoism,and paid attention to the interpretation and promotion of the Chinese humanistic spirit.However,he is different from other modern neo-Confucian scholars.His philosophical goal is not to construct a pure philosophical system,but to pay more attention to social problems,actively participate in social activities,reflect and criticize social problems,and think about the value and meaning of life.Tang Junyi’s moral self-view is a kind of maintenance of human nature,and has important enlightening significance to encourage modern people to pursue the value of life and the meaning of life.
