During the Renaissance, the western painting art had a brand-new development and change, when many influential painting schools appeared,as well as famous artists.Among them, the artistic achievements of Florentine school and Venetian school were the most prominent.Nowadays,it is generally accepted that Rafael is the representative of the Florentine school, while Titian is the leader of the Venetian school. Both of them show their artistic styles with prominent painting features, which reflect the different "visual effects" conveyed by their painting art,and these "visual effects" are caused by different specific painting techniques.Firstly,The pictures of Raphael and Titian present different "spatial visual effect".During the Renaissance, perspective method was systematically applied to painting.Pictures were no longer limited to plane arrangement, and the composition methods were gradually diversified. Therefore, the expression of space became an important task for many painters in this period. The elements were diverse and complex, and each painter had his own way.As a representative of the Florentine School of Painting,Raphael used to employ symmetrical perspective continuation method in his spatial expression in the picture;Titian also followed the principle of perspective method in spatial expression, but unlike Raphael,he used a "balanced" approach to the construction of space. In a word, their works express different spatial "visual effects".Secondly, different color visual effects are shown in the pictures of Raphael and Titian. As the birthplace of the Renaissance,Italy’s economic prosperity created conditions for art,and artists had more choices of pigments.Influenced by the use of inherent colors by early painters,Raphael was committed to reproducing the real nature in his works of the same theme.By using the inherent colors of objects to shape the shape of objects,he showed a simple and eternal color effect. At the same time, the combination of "red and blue" colors used in many of his paintings became his typical color mark;while Titian created the "conditional color method" in the history of Western painting, breaking the shackles of the inherent colors of objects and showing the variety of color combinations. The "Titian red",named after Titian, was used in a large number of works by Titian,as well as gold and blue.Due to his special painting techniques, they were finally rendered in blue and brown, which became his prominent "color marks".The difference in the use of color by Raphael and Titian resulted in different "color visual effects" in their works.Thirdly, the pictures of Raphael and Titian present different "physical visual effects".During the Renaissance, many painters closely linked anatomy, perspective and other knowledge with painting,by which they created lifelike images of objects.Raphael and Titian were experts in this field, but they were different in the specific depiction of objects.Raphael outlined relatively clear lines in the picture, providing a sculptural "static" effect, while Titian used the changes of the object images hue, lightness, purity and so on to draw the changeable contour line of virtual and real, showing a dynamic object image effect with staggered virtual and real.Generally speaking,Raphael’s paintings showed a visual effect of stability, grace and clarity, while Titian’s showed a visual effect of variety, opulence and movement.
