Remembering Lost Homes:A Study On The Contemporary Painting Of Factory Ruins In China

In the context of China’s urbanization development,some industrial areas have gradually become desolate due to the inability to adapt to changes in the economic structure or due to the needs of environmental governance.Among them,a large number of factories have become ruins due to relocation or demolition.From a certain perspective,these factory ruins carry the collective spirit of the working class in a certain period and their memories.Many painters have a special feeling and understanding of these ruins either because they have lived in the old factory area or because of some cause.As a result,they have created many metaphorical and expressive works based on this theme.Although these works are different in creation methods and techniques,careful study reveals that there are some commonalities between each other:in terms of morphological characteristics,the structure of these works is often complex and unified,and the shape is heavy and full of tension.The formation of the characteristics is mostly affected by the modeling characteristics of the factory itself and the morphological changes in the process of ruining;in terms of color,such works often use deep and solemn colors,which are related to the color appearance of the ruins of the factory itself.At the same time,it also echoes the spiritual power embodied in the works;at the same time,painters often use symbolic techniques to convey the inner spirit in the creation of such themes.In addition,this article discusses the artistic value of the image of factory ruins in contemporary paintings from two aspects:aesthetic character and spiritual connotation.First of all,factory ruins have two aesthetic qualities.One is the beauty of incompleteness,which is determined by the materiality and time and space of the factory ruins;the other is the beauty of tragedy,the traces of broken and broken factory ruins and the spiritual confusion it brings.Make the ruins of the factory have a tragic beauty.Secondly,the author explored the spiritual connotation of factory ruins.As a carrier of spiritual exploration for painters,factory ruins help us to reflect on the past,examine the trajectory of life development,and rebuild our spiritual home.The "Homeland" series of works created by the author take factory ruins as the subject matter,and mainly select large-scale factory scenes or representative local scenes as the creative objects.The creative concepts and techniques are based on emotions,using realism or expression.I create with a sexual approach to express my knowledge and understanding of the ruins of the factory,and hope to draw people’s attention to the changes of the times.
