| As a common form of interpreting,E-C consecutive interpreting of impromptu speeches is a hot topic in interpreting research.Being highly colloquial,impromptu speeches give interpreters bigger challenges,such as repeated information,redundant information,scattered information,meaning focus deviation,missing meaning and so on.So it is important to use reformulation strategies in English to Chinese consecutive interpreting of impromptu speeches.In this paper,Yang Lan’s 2015 interview with Tesla CEO Elon Musk in English is selected as the material.7 grade-2 MTI students are selected for this experiment.This paper explores whether and which reformulation strategy is used by student interpreters and analyzes the impact of reformulation strategies on the quality of E-C consecutive interpreting of impromptu speeches from both quantitative and qualitative dimensions.Here are the findings.First,in face of impromptu speeches,student interpreters tended to use reformulation strategies in the process of consecutive interpreting.While they varied in using reformulation strategies.Some student interpreters used reformulation strategies according to the different characteristics of impromptu speeches.They cut the repeated information,adjusted the information position to avoid the deviation of meaning focus.They also supplemented the missing meaning,summarized the scattered information and redundant information.While some student interpreters showed deficiency in using reformulation strategies and can only identify repeated information and cut it.Second,the reformulation strategies by student interpreters affected the overall quality of E-C consecutive of impromptu speeches.Overall,the more times the reformulation strategies were used,the higher the quality was.Third,the reformulation strategies affected the fidelity and expression and had a greater impact on the expression. |
