The source text is the chapter six of Geocultural Power:China’s Exploration for Revival of the Silk Road in the 21st Century.This book was written by Prof.Tim Winter from the University of Western Australia,and published in 2019 by The University of Chicago Press.The source text focused on the historical aspects of the Belt and Road,examined the history of the regions along the ancient Silk Road,and introduced relevant academic research that has emerged since the Belt and Road Initiative was proposed.By carrying out a text analysis,important linguistic phenomena and related translation strategies were explored in details.In the case analysis,the translator analyzed the translation of vocabulary,sentences with inanimate subjects and grammatical cohesion,and summarized the corresponding translation strategies.For the translation of proper nouns and general nouns,annotation and conversion were applied.For the translation of sentences with inanimate subjects,they were mainly translated into sentences with animate subject,adverbial clauses and extraposition.To translate the grammatical cohesion,the translator adopted recurrence and amplification.It is hoped that the translation methods summarized in this report can also provide some references for the translation studies of the Belt and Road in the future. |
