In today’s economic globalization,proficiency in oral English communication is an important indicator to measure the comprehensive ability of talents.Primary school is a key stage for students to learn language and improve their language ability.In order to further enhance the ability of international exchange and cooperation of Talents in China,The Ministry of Education of China decided to offer English courses in primary schools in 2001,taking it as an important part of the basic education curriculum reform in the early 21 st century.In order to improve students’ oral English expression and communication ability,English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2011 Edition),newly revised in 2011,requires that primary School English teaching should pay attention to students’ pronunciation and language sense training,and cultivate students’ ability to use English for simple daily communication.This paper in part to the elementary school higher grades of English oral teaching as the research object,focuses on revealing the current situation of senior English teaching of primary school,find the problems and causes,and puts forward the corresponding reform countermeasures,in order to promote and deepen the reform of elementary school oral English teaching in China to provide reference and enlightenment.This study is based on Krashen’s language input hypothesis,Swan’s language output hypothesis and constructivism theory.In order to understand the actual spoken English level of students,we tested the spoken English level of 200 senior students from two primary schools in Z City by using the test method.And using the method of questionnaire investigation and interview,respectively for two senior students and primary school English teachers to investigate,investigate dimensions including students’ oral English learning attitude,students’ oral English classroom learning situation,students’ oral English practice after class,teachers’ professional quality,teachers’ spoken English classroom teaching content,teachers’ spoken English classroom teaching methods,etc.The survey found that the main problems in oral English teaching include:schools and teachers lack of attention to oral English teaching;The effectiveness of oral English teaching is not high;Lack of evaluation standards and mechanisms related to oral English;Parents’ support for oral English learning is limited.The causes of the problems mainly include:the profound influence of exam-oriented education;The teaching method of teachers is relatively single;Teachers’ oral English level is not high;Students lack of oral English foundation;There are psychological barriers in students’ oral English learning.Based on relevant theories and the causes of the above problems,suggestions and strategies are put forward to improve oral English teaching in primary schools,including paying attention to oral English teaching and creating a good language learning environment;Improve oral English teaching effect,pay attention to students’ oral English learning experience;Strengthen the faculty and pay attention to the professional development of teachers;Improve the evaluation standard and test mechanism of oral English;Establish home-school cooperative training mechanism and other specific improvement strategies.
