Objective:To investigate the effect of the application of "Yao Tu Xiao Ling Gao" ointment as the medium on the efficacy of deep acupuncture by Electro-acupuncture(EA)at "Lumbar disc herniation(LDH)five points" in the treatment of Lumbar disc herniation. Methods:A total of 60 patients with LDH were enrolled in a prospective,randomized,two-group parallel controlled trial, and the patients were randomly divided into experimental group and control group, with 30 cases in each group. Both groups underwent the therapy of deep acupuncture by EA at "LDH five points",and the experimental group added "Yao Tu Xiao Ling Gao" ointment as the medium of acupuncture treatment,a total of 6 treatments were performed.Visual analogue score(VAS)for lumbar/leg pain before and after treatment, lumbar spine function score(JOA)and EQ-5D-5L health questionnaire score before and after treatment were observed and analyzed.Results:1.There was a statistically significant difference in the difference in VAS scores of low back pain between the two groups before and after treatment(P<0.05);There was no significant difference in the difference in VAS scores of leg pain before and after treatment between the two groups(P>0.05).2.There was no significant difference in VAS scores for low back pain after treatment between the two groups(P>0.05);There was a statistically significant difference in VAS scores for leg pain between the two groups(P<0.05).3.The VAS score of low back pain before and after treatment in the experimental group was statistically different(P<0.001);The VAS score of low back pain before and after treatment was statistically different between the control group(P<0.001),There was a statistically significant difference in the overall mean of VAS scores for leg pain before and after treatment in the experimental group(P<0.001).There was a statistically significant difference in the overall mean of leg pain VAS scores before and after treatment in the control group(P<0.001).4.There were statistical differences in the improvement index of JOA between the two groups(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the improvement rate of JOA between the two groups(P>0.05).After converting the improvement rate of JOA into clinical efficacy, the clinical efficacy of the two groups was statistically different(P<0.05).5.The EQ-5D-5L scale reflects that the health status of all patients has become better in at least one dimension than before treatment. There was a statistically significant difference between the EQ_VAS scores after treatment between the two groups compared with the baseline(P<0.05).There were significant differences in the EQ_VAS scores before and after treatment in the experimental group(P<0.001).There was a statistically significant difference in the EQ_VAS scores before and after treatment in the control group(P<0.001),indicating that the EQ_VAS scores after treatment were significantly higher between the two groups than before treatment. There was no significant difference between the two groups after treatment and the change of EQindex from baseline(P>0.05).There were statistically significant differences in the EQindex comparison before and after treatment in the experimental group(P<0.001).The comparison of EQindex before and after treatment in the control group was statistically different(P<0.001).6.Compared with the experimental group and the control group, there was no statistical difference in the occurrence of adverse events(P>0.05),and no serious adverse events occurred.7.The efficacy satisfaction of patients in the experimental group was better than that of the control group, and the difference between the two was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusions:1.Deep acupuncture by EA at "LDH five points" combined with ointment and simple deep acupuncture by EA at "LDH five points" have a significant effect on improving low back pain and leg pain of LDH,and the former is better than the latter for improving the symptoms of low back pain in patients with LDH.2.Deep acupuncture by EA at "LDH five points" combined with ointment therapy and simple deep acupuncture by EA at "LDH five points" can significantly impro ve the patient’s lumbar spine function, and the former is better than the latter for the improvement of lumbar spine function.3.It is suggested that deep acupuncture by EA at "LDH five points" combined with ointment therapy and simple deep acupuncture by EA at "LDH five points" can improve the health status of patients, and the former is superior to the latter in improving the patient’s health status(EQ-VAS).
