With the development of science and technology,PowerPoint slide-assisted speech becomes an increasingly common case in various occasions, which makes slide-aided simultaneous interpretation, consequently,an increasingly common phenomenon.According to Daniel Gile's Effort Model theory, there is a limit to the total energy available to interpreters, and the energy, therefore, should be reasonably allocated to four tasks:listening and analysis,short-term memory, speech production, and coordination. As an extension of the simultaneous interpretation with text,slide-assisted simultaneous interpretation entails an extra reading task other than the four tasks mentioned above.Reading and listening, both functioning as channels for information input, can sometimes complement each other. Therefore,on the premise of a certain preparation time for interpreters,PowerPoint slides can generally play an auxiliary role in simultaneous interpretation. However,PowerPoint slide content is of varying degrees of details, some of which are detailed to each word of the speaker's manuscript, while others merely depict the speaker's mind map generally. Will the slides of different levels of detail impact differently on simultaneous interpretation performance? If so,what aspects in specific will be influenced, and what causes such differences? To explore the correlation between the detail level of slide content and the performance of simultaneous interpretation, this paper will conduct an empirical research to compare the translation output quality of translators with three different detail levels of slide content. The experiment will engage 15 equivalent interpreters in three contrast groups. After the experiment, the author conducts a thorough research on the interpreter's performance through quantitative and qualitative analysis. The author will then, under the guidance of Daniel Gile's Effort Model, seek explanations for the same or different performances of the three contrast groups of subjects and try to provide some reference for the interpreters on how to make full use of different detailed slides to improve their simultaneous interpretation quality.
