A Study On Zhang Ling’s Trauma Novel Writing

The trauma writing of Zhang Ling’s novels takes the sadness and joy of small characters as the starting point to write about the collective physical and mental trauma of the Chinese people in the past century.The thesis is divided into five parts:the introduction summarizes Zhang Ling’s life experience and main works,defines the research object of this paper,and expounds the research status and significance.The first chapter introduces the origin of trauma writing in Zhang Ling’s novels and holds that Chinese history since the 19 th century is the objective factor of trauma writing in Zhang Ling’s novels.The subjective factors of trauma writing in Zhang Ling’s novels are the loss of cultural roots brought about by the cross-cultural experience of diaspora and the creative idea of exploring humanity and vitality.They constitute the reason for the rich theme of trauma writing in Zhang Ling’s novels.The second chapter analyzes the multiple themes of trauma writing in Zhang Ling’s novels,and considers that family trauma,collective trauma and female trauma are three dimensions of trauma writing in Zhang Ling’s novels.The third chapter analyzes the images of the victims in Zhang Ling’s works,and thinks that four kinds of images of the victims,Chinese overseas Chinese,mail-order bride,overseas students and readers,enrich the character gallery of modern and contemporary Chinese trauma writing.Chapter four analyzes the treatment process and writing value of trauma in Zhang Ling’s novels.The key to the treatment of traumatic memory lies in the intervention of professional psychological counselors to reach a cooperative alliance with patients and rebuild themselves.The writing value of trauma writing is to provide a useful way of trauma healing,to present complex human nature and to reflect on civilization and war.The conclusion is that the trauma writing in Zhang Ling’s novels not only accuses war,feudal culture,political movement and racial discrimination of damaging human life and survival,but also extends thinking about how to rebuild the life order of ordinary people after trauma.This is the unique feature of Zhang Ling’s writing trauma with both Chinese and Western cultural background.
