As an important member of new immigrant writers,Zhang Ling's works have attracted more and more attention in recent years. She began her literary creation in the 1990s,and has made great achievements so far.It is noteworthy that in her works, she often wrote about the relationship between mothers and daughters. These writings of mother-daughter relationship have complex and changeable forms under different historical and cultural backgrounds presented in her different works. As a kind of inheritance of blood,mother-daughter relationship has multiple implications in her literary works.Exploring the implications behind the mother-daughter relationship is of great significance to the study of women's gender identity, the continuity of female genealogyr the author's cultural and historical outlook.Zhang Ling is also an oversea Chinese writer. Her mother-daughter relationship is interwoven with her writings across history and reality, native land and foreign land, and this and other shores, which has produced different sparks. This paper is divided into four parts, including the introduction and the following three chapters. In the introduction part,it will mainly introduce the reasons for choosing the topic, literature review, research methods and innovations of this study. In the part of research summary,I will syslematically sort out and summarize the research status of Zhang Ling's creation.Since this article focuses on the mother-daughter relationship in Zhang Ling's works, the first chapter will first systematically sort out and classify the different forms of mother-daughter relationship m Zhang Ling's works. Her creation has two distinct dimensions:from the vertical point of view,it is the writing of returning to the native land and history.Every story she wrote today will inevitably go back to the remote Chinese history and native land, and tell the cause of the story, that is,the "root" of the story.Horizontally, her works transcend cultural boundaries, writing stories of new and old immigrants struggling to survive in foreign cultures or seeking their spiritual home.In addition, the mother-daughter relationship in her works, just under the horizontal and vertical dimensions, can transcend the barrier between time and space. It can even be said that in many works,it is precisely because Zhang Ling wrote such a mother-daughter relationship that the whole work can unfold in the dimension of time and space."Mother-daughter relationship" is the link between her history and reality, and between the East and the West. Therefore, this chapter is divided into two sections, summarizing the different forms of mother-daughter relationship in the historical narrative background and cross-cultural background, and dividing these mother-daughter relationships into two main types, namely, the mother-daughter relationship of alienation and estrangement, the mother-daughter relationship of support and assistance.Chapter Two will discuss the purpose and significance of Zhang Ling's writing about the mother-daughter relationship. This chapter will continue the first chapter of the mother-daughter relationship in the context of historical narrative and cross-cultural thinking. This paper explores the background of Zhang Ling's construction of such mother-daughter relationship, and conveys her historical view and cultural identity view. She intends to highlight the dominant position of women in her works, combines traditional realism with new historicisn, and presents the inner monologue of women buried and suppressed in the long history for readers, trying to construct women's history. In terms of cultural identity,Zhang Ling's literary creation has always upheld the concept of tolerance and openness.Although there are many conflicts between Chinese and Western cultures in her works, including the inter-generational differences between mother and daughter due to cross-cultural differences, her purpose is not to highlight the sharp opposition between Chinese and Western cultures, but to explore the common spiritual hone of mankind in the differences. The third chapter mainly discusses how Zhang Ling constructs such a mother-daughter relationship from the perspective of space-time narrative.Firstly,Zhang Ling's space-time narrative and the construction of mother-daughter relationship complement each other. The construction of mother-daughter relationship plays a key role in the extension of time and space in her works. On the contrary, such space-time provides a reasonable discourse field for the construction of mother-daughter relationship and promotes the development of mother-daughter relationship narrative. On this basis, this chapter will also explore the limitations of Zhang Ling's mother-daughter relationship narrative. However, pointing out the limitation of a writer;s literary works does not mean denying her creation, but to summarizing the shortcomings of her works and wishing a better change in her future works.
