On The Female Writing And Narrative Strategies In Zhang Ling's Recent Works

Zhang Ling's creation began with a breakthrough,aiming at breaking through the old literature rules of New Immigrant Literature.She,writing unconsciously or intentionally,stand in the new angle of Overseas Chinese Literature creation,writing history horizontally and vertically with a cross-culture,cross-nation,cross-ethnic and cross-gender identity,trying to sketch the storms and clouds from Chinese history.She draw lessons from her existing country and looked back at her home country over the vast ocean for precious memories,through which she managed to establish a historical and literary stage of coexistence of confrontation and reconciliation.From the current several new works,Zhang Ling's creation has shown a clear turning point:she began to try to break the shallow geographical,cultural or ethnic boundaries between the two sides of the Pacific Ocean(East Asia and West America)and got rid of the dependence on just writing history.Among the many themes,she chose to explore more and more about the human nature,especially the female(maternal)tolerance and endurance over the pain,and the newborn after that.The new seeks for the deep connotation of the multifaceted and intrinsic nature of human nature provide a stronger feminine power burst in her world of fiction.Therefore,this article mainly focuses on her latest works to start with a specific analysis.The first chapter explores reasons over the turning point.The second chapter mainly analyzes how her characters struggle to survive and grow up against the heavy blow of the history,the male chauvinism world or the great changes of the times,and try to analyze the characteristics of feminine writing in Zhang Ling's recent works.At the same time,the third chapter explores the "pain-success" mode after the transformation of Zhang Ling's writing style:In her recent works,whether it is the pain of childbirth in Labour Pain,the pain of war in Laoyan,or the pain of barrenness in The Tale of Living Years,Zhang Ling has also made breakthroughs in the theme of her works.The novel is no longer satisfied with depicting the trivial events of early immigrant families or the tragic natural disasters.The writing point is turning into political events or war or other man-made disasters to create a more magnificent writing background,and all these overwhelming disasters are all imposed on the weak women.Through writing love and hatred,gathering and splitting,we can excavate women's land mother attributes over the pains,perceive women's difficult fate and self-rescue consciousness in the vicissitudes of the times,and convey women's strength in the novel world.This chapter also tries to discover her unique narrative operation and strategies(such as repetitive narrative,material narrative,small reunion ending,etc.).Throughout the above three chapters,this thesis tries to restore a more complete female family lineage originated by Zhang Ling.
