The act of verbal interaction between teachers and students continues throughout the teaching process. The effect of verbal interaction affects teaching effectiveness, and a good atmosphere of verbal interaction is conducive to promoting a harmonious teacher-student relationship and creating a good teaching environment. This study takes novice teachers as the research object and adopts a combination of quantitative and qualitative analysis.Using the Flanders Interaction Analysis System,a classic tool for the analysis of verbal interaction behaviors, the quantitative study is conducted to observe, summarise and analysis five teaching video cases. The paper is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is the introductory section, which explains the background, significance and theoretical basis of the research.Chapter 2 is the literature review, which defines the core concepts and introduces relevant research on international Chinese language teaching speech interaction, and summarises and concludes the studies that have been analysed using the interaction analysis tool i FIAS.Chapter 3 presents the research design, describing the research population, the research instruments, and the research process and methodology.Chapter 4 details the findings and the analysis of the results obtained from the study, summarising the structure of verbal interaction teaching through matrix analysis and curve analysis.Chapter 5 summarises the common problems that novice teachers encounter in their online elementary synthesis classes in terms of verbal interaction, analyses the causes of these problems in terms of the teachers and students who are the subjects of instruction and other influencing factors, and makes suggestions for optimising them.In this study,it was found that novice teachers lacked an understanding of the characteristics of online teaching, and that teaching was based on the traditional teaching format,i.e.the teacher’s explanation, with a low rate of students taking the initiative to ask and answer questions.Novice teachers had some understanding of the characteristics of teaching Chinese as a second language, but their lack of teaching experience produced problems such as a large proportion of teacher speech, few forms of verbal interaction, low frequency of technology use,and a rigid verbal-emotional atmosphere.Accordingly, the causes are analysed from three aspects: teachers, students and other factors, and four suggestions are made for optimising the problems, paying attention to students’ verbal expressions, integrating online and offline teaching, promoting their own competence development and grasping the advantages of young teachers.
