The Emotional Narrative Of Anti-Epidemic Documentaries

Since the end of 2019,the new coronavirus pneumonia epidemic has swept the world,and documentaries based on this public health event,such as Wuhan: My Diary of the War on the Epidemic,City of Heroes and China’s Anti-Epidemic,have been broadcast on domestic and international communication platforms,becoming important media vehicles to tell the story of the epidemic.By building a universal picture of the fight against the epidemic,the documentaries extend a set of "emotions" that are common to all human beings,further deepening the connection of human emotional memories in the context of the epidemic and triggering a re-examination of the perception of life through the emotional stories of the fight against the epidemic.This paper takes the documentary film on the epidemic as an object of study,analyses the emotional issues embedded in its narrative,and tries to explore a new direction of thinking in order to better provide reference for the study of emotional narratives in the documentary film on the epidemic.First of all,in terms of narrative themes,the documentaries on the fight against epidemics mainly present the emotional stories in the process of epidemics through such formats as "family and nation","heroic sentiment" and "civilian warmth".The documentary also shows the warmth,emotion and hardship in the process of fighting the epidemic,reflecting the core values of the documentary,i.e.the appreciation and praise of life,and highlighting humanistic care.Secondly,in terms of narrative language,the documentary uses visual scenes and auditory symbols to project emotions.The interspersing of different visual shots gradually enriches the details of the scenes,outlining the different levels of the epidemic context and building the audience’s visual experience.At the same time,the addition of aural symbols such as "simultaneous sound" and "background sound" also brings about a blend of sound symbols and the audience’s emotions.These two together create an "emotional field" that enriches the narrative expression of the documentary.Again,in terms of narrative perspective,the documentary on the fight against the epidemic deepens the narrative function of video.By presenting the overall picture of the epidemic from a zero perspective,the film conveys the spiritual core of the epidemic from an inner perspective,feeling the warmth and strength in the fight against the epidemic,and then constructs a picture of the epidemic from an outer perspective.With the synergy of multiple perspectives,the viewer is able to re-examine the epidemic from the inside and gain a deep understanding of the significance of the fight against the epidemic.Finally,the proliferation of documentaries on the fight against the epidemic has presented the full picture of the epidemic to the public,and the documentary on the fight against the epidemic has hit the heart of the public,enriching their understanding of the epidemic and alleviating their anxiety.At the same time,the attitude of all the people in the fight against the epidemic conveys the right values,and the "national album" highlights the power of a great nation,reshaping the human society’s understanding of life and giving it new spiritual coordinates in a common emotion.
