A Report On The C-E Translation Of Operation Manual Of XXX Brand Loader(Excerpts)

As China’s technological advances continue and internationalization increases,more and more technology companies are expanding into the international market.In this process,the importance of Chinese-English translation of technical texts cannot be overstated.High-quality English translation is essential in effectively conveying information,boosting brand image,and expanding into foreign markets.During the internship from July 2022 to December 2022,the translator completed a project to translate the Operation Manual of XXX Brand Loader.Based on this translation project,the translator selected the second part of transmission device as the material for this translation report.The objective is to conduct a reflective study on technical text translation from the perspective of Newmark’s Text Type Theory.This report is divided into five parts.The first part is the introduction,describing the background and significance of this translation project.The second part is the process of translation,mainly divided into before-translation,while-translation and after-translation.The third part is an overview of Newmark’s Text Type Theory and its applications.The fourth part is a case study based on Newmark’s Text Type Theory.The study analyzes translation methods for technical texts in Chinese-English translation from the perspectives of vocabulary,syntax,and discourse.The final part is a summary of translation report,mainly describing the gains and limitations of the translator in this translation project.Through this translation project,the following discoveries have been made: Firstly,Newmark classified text types into three categories: expressive text,vocative text,and informative text.As a technical text,Operation Manual of XXX Brand Loader belongs to informative text and therefore,Newmark’s theory can be used as theoretical support for this translation project.Secondly,Newmark’s Text Type Theory provides guidance for using translation skills such as conversion,literal translation,amplification,division,and combined translation,which have been employed successfully to overcome difficulties encountered during the translation process,for example,professional term translation,conversion of passive sentences,and translation of complex sentences.After finishing the translation project,the translator summarized experience and lessons,and aimed to provide a reference for other translators to improve the quality of the translation of technical texts.
